What is CPNI?
I will start immediately with the main question. What exactly is Clinical Psycho-Neuro-Immunology (CPNI)?
It is a science that studies the cause of chronic diseases.
In other words, what causes chronic diseases? And how do we get rid of them?
By chronic diseases, I actually mean all diseases that develop during life.
Examples of these are; neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic syndrome, diabetes type 2, rheumatic diseases, MS, chronic fatigue, depression etc.
The CPNI looks for the cause of chronic diseases in lifestyle.
Examples of lifestyle factors that can be influenced include:
-
nutrition
-
stress
-
exercise
-
emotions
-
sleep
Research shows that the largest part of the cause of chronic diseases is due to your own lifestyle.
A smaller share is caused by factors that cannot be influenced, such as heredity, accidents, life events/traumas, etc. The exact ratio is difficult to say and it can differ per person or disease. The fact remains that lifestyle always influences your complaints.
The fact that the largest share of the development of your complaints arises from your own lifestyle is good news because it means that by changing your lifestyle, you can also positively change the cause of diseases.
The CPNI connects various medical disciplines with each other such as psychology, neurology, immunology, sociology, endocrinology and so on. Hence the name clinical Psycho-Neuro-Immunology.
By getting started with smart lifestyle changes you can positively influence your health and quality of life. So lifestyle plays an important role in a wide range of complaints.
The changes you need to make in your lifestyle are the playing field of Clinical Psycho-Neuro-Immunology.
Regular
Don't get me wrong...not all conditions or illnesses are (only) the result of lifestyle, often people don't know (yet) exactly how illnesses arise, sometimes medical intervention with medication or surgery is required. That's okay with me. It's good that conventional medicine has developed so far.
……But even then, you can positively influence your complaints by making smart changes in lifestyle.
This approach is therefore not an alternative to regular medical treatment.
My aim is to combine both visions into a complete treatment.
Evolution
Humans are a product of millions of years of evolution. The CPNI sees evolutionary biology as the basis of our functioning. The lifestyle factors that we now consider healthy are the living conditions as we lived them for millions of years. Over the millions of years we have learned to deal with those conditions.
“Nothing in biologie makes sense except in the light of evolution”
The living conditions in today's society have changed faster than human genetics could keep up. The difference between then and now is mainly in the living conditions that we now call lifestyle; nutrition, exercise, stress, sleep, etc. Everyone can imagine that we dealt with this differently throughout evolution. We are not made to eat in abundance all day long, we are not made to sit on a chair all day long, etc. Why not? Because those conditions have never existed throughout evolution. In other words, we have never learned.
A mismatch has arisen between the human who is adapted to life as we lived for a long time in evolution and the human who now lives in a rapidly changing modern society and is provided with all conveniences.
.
How to proceed?
The first step to take is to determine which lifestyle change will give you the best results.
The second step to take is the implementation of the lifestyle change. Lifestyle is a habit, a behavior, and any behavioral change is difficult.
By reading the next two sentences you will understand what I mean.
“If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you'll get what you’ve got”
“Before you make someone better, you have to ask if he is willing to give up what made him sick”
As a CPNI therapist, I completed a one-year preliminary training in “orthomolecular therapy”, after which I completed the three-year CPNI master's degree.
This provides me with the knowledge and skills necessary to make the correct diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan for lifestyle changes.
Because lifestyle actually plays a role in all conditions or illnesses, you could say that all conditions or illnesses benefit from a healthy change in your lifestyle.
Common complaints I treat:
-
Fatigue complaints
-
Bowel complaints / digestive problems / irritable bowel syndrome
-
Chronic pain
-
Mood swings / depression / burnout
-
Thyroid problems
-
Autoimmune diseases
Have you been suffering from complaints for a long time that just won't go away?
